Kissimmee located south of Orlando is the backdrop to tourist attractions and 150 hotels and is home to Walt Disney World, the world's number one tourist attraction. Residential growth is phenomenal and continues as newcomers seek the open spaces the city offers. Both residential and commercial growth is blossoming around Osceola Parkway, and more is coming. A 1,600-acre parcel of ranch land is being developed to build 4,000 homes over the next 15 years. Other plans include developing a 7,000 home community north of Lake Tohopekaliga, known locally as Lake Toho. Lake Toho has excellent bass fishing. To maintain some history, the city's Community Redevelopment Agency has actively sought to improve the historic downtown district with a cowboy-themed arched gateway at Main Street and U.S. 192, along with several major streetscape efforts.
