Altamonte Springs located only a short commute from downtown Orlando was among the first housing developments in Seminole County. Because of lack of available land, many homeowners choose to renovate an existing home rather than build a new one. Many subdivisions are nestled in lakeside and tree-shaded communities. The Altamonte Springs mall, which was the first regional mall, has an abundance of retail stores with all the restaurants centrally located making this area a shopping and entertainment Mecca. A 25-acre Altamonte Town Center will be built next to the 40-acre manmade lake at Crane Roost Park, the center for activities and festivals, including the huge Fourth of July Celebration. Plans for high-rise condomimum buildings with more shops and walkways are in the works. With close proximity to shops, eateries, and hospitals, living in Altamonte Springs is a popular choice.
